Emeka Okereke, is a Nigerian photographer who first came to photography in 2001. He later became a member of the Depth of Field Collective (DOF) and completed a Masters degree at the Fine Art School in Paris. Having operated strictly in black and white until recently, Okereke is branching into various new media with work that is informed by both conceptual and documentary photography. With just two years of photography behind him Okereke won the Best Young Photographer award from Bamako Photo festival in 2003 and has since exhibited in biennales and art festivals in cities around the world including Lagos, Cape Town, London, Berlin, Brussels, New York and Paris. In 2003 he also coordinated Paris-Lagos, a three week photo exchange project between 9 photography students from Paris and Lagos. He has recently won the Culturesfrance 2008 Visa Pour la Creation; a grant to carry out an experimental project exploring photography and public space.
